Film class during COVID-19

Bart Weiss, UTA associate professor of film in the College of Liberal Arts, wrote an op-ed column for The Dallas Morning News outlining how teaching filmmaking has changed during this COVID-19 pandemic. Weiss also is the founder and director of Dallas VideoFest, producer of KERA’s “Frame of Mind” and co-host of the podcast “Fog of Truth.”

UTA professor named fellow

The Institute of Industrial and Systems Engineers has named Erick Jones a fellow, an honor that recognizes outstanding leaders of the profession who have made significant, nationally recognized contributions to industrial engineering, Education Daily Report reported. Jones is the George and Elizabeth Pickett Endowed Professor and associate dean for graduate affairs in the College of Engineering.

UTA alumnus named interim police chief

The city of Arlington has named Jaime Ayala and Kevin Kolbye as interim police chief on an alternating basis until the city concludes a national search for a permanent replacement, The Dallas Morning News reported. Ayala is a UTA graduate.

Former politician, humanitarian dies

Former Fort Worth Mayor Hugh Parmer died Wednesday, KXAS NBC 5 and the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reported. Parmer also is a former state senator and presidential appointee leading worldwide humanitarian efforts. He earned his master’s degree from UTA.
