Incremental political progress

Following Tuesday's election results, Rebecca Deen, associate professor of political science at UTA, told KERA that Texas Democrats’ aspirations may have been “bigger than their grasp,” but that change is incremental and the party’s progress in Texas positions them for possible success in election cycles to come.

Celebrity endorsements

Thomas Marshall, UTA professor of political science, told the Dallas Observer celebrity endorsement of political candidates is “more effective than one assumes,” especially for certain demographics. “I think they’re very helpful in terms of younger, less focused voters,” Marshall says.

Distance learning access

Peggy Semingson, UTA associate professor in curriculum and instruction, said the digital divide problem in school districts’ utilization of online learning affected low-income families for years before COVID-19 forced schools to move classes online, Government Technology reported. The pandemic just brought the issue to the surface, and it’s important for districts to find a permanent solution for the digital divide because it isn’t a temporary problem, she said.
