Johnson & Johnson vaccinations
Erin Carlson, UTA associate clinical professor and director of graduate public health programs in the College of Nursing and Health Innovation, spoke to WFAA about the Johnson & Johnson vaccinations and how they are being “paused” after rare clotting cases have emerged. Carlson said she was glad to see vaccine distributors taking this seriously and encouraged others to still continue their vaccination plans with the other vaccines available. Federal health officials called for a halt in the use of the company’s coronavirus vaccine while they study serious illnesses that developed in six American women.
Historic black communities
A team from the College of Architecture, Planning and Public Affairs is one of two nationwide to win a $40,000 SOM Foundation Research Prize to create a design playbook for Black settlements in North Texas, Daily Real Estate News reported.
Cancer diagnoses & relationships
Maxine Davis, UTA assistant professor of social work, co-authored a study on how a breast cancer diagnoses in Black women impacted their marital relationships, Medical Express and Newswise reported. Davis was part of a team of researchers from the Brown School at Washington University in St. Louis. The study will be available in an upcoming print edition of the Journal of the Society for Social Work & Research.
