New green technology

Alumnus Ali Farzbod, an adjunct professor in the Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering Department, was featured in the Dallas Business Journal along with the work he’s doing at his company, SeebeckCell Technologies in regards to finding one of many solutions to climate change. From skyscrapers to oil rigs, even cell phones and the human body, heat is released into the atmosphere. SeebeckCell Technologies looks to capture that heat and convert it into usable electricity.

School of Social Work

Thanks to support from the Simmons Sisters Fund at Texas Women's Foundation, Richard Hoefer, professor of social work at UT Arlington, is launching an initiative focused on promoting social policy advocacy through educating community organizations, students and social workers, U.S. Fed News reported. The $325,000 gift from the Simmons Sisters Fund will allow Hoefer to translate his passion for social justice into a program designed to inspire and educate social workers and leaders of community organizations to become more effective in policy advocacy.

Streaming Culture

David Arditi, UTA associate professor of sociology, has a new book available entitled Streaming Culture: Subscription Platforms and the Unending Consumption of Culture, Mirage News reported. Arditi’s research focuses on the intersection of culture and technology, and in his new book, he explores the complex and ever-evolving relationship that exists between the two.
