UTA opens vaccination clinic

A new COVID-19 vaccination site opened at The University of Texas at Arlington due to a partnership with Tarrant County and University of North Texas Health Science Center, WFAA 8, Fox 4 News, NBC 5 DFW, D Magazine, WBAP-AM, KRLD 1080, and city of Arlington reported. Members of the public and the UTA community can visit the site at 801 W. Greek Row for walk-up appointments or register online in advance.

Vaccination accessibility for college students

Amy Okodaso, a graduate student in the Department of Electrical Engineering, spoke to Fox 4 News about the benefits of opening a COVID-19 vaccination site on UTA’s campus. Okodaso noted that there are many students without access to transportation who will now be able to receive the vaccine.

Job prospects for recent graduates

Gavin Mitchell, UTA alumnus, spoke to NBC 5 about job prospects for college graduates amid the pandemic. Mitchell encouraged new graduates to be hopeful and continue seeking opportunities.

Pandemic career counseling

Lolin Martins-Crane, director of the Lockheed Martin Career Development Center, spoke to NBC 5 about career counseling for students who are graduating during the economic recession caused by the pandemic. Martins-Crane shared the statistic that 60% of new hires in the last 12 months were recent graduates.

Building name change

The University of Texas at Arlington announced the UT System Board of Regents’ decision to rename UTA’s Davis Hall to the University Administration Building, KERA 90.1 reported. The change follows more than a year of review by UTA students, faculty, and staff.

Diversity, equity and inclusion committees

Blaize LaFleur, student body president at The University of Texas at Arlington, spoke to KERA 90.1 about the need for committees to address diversity, equity and inclusion on each campus within The University of Texas System. LaFleur said these committees would allow universities to represent and serve their student populations more equitably.
