Discussing session’s end

Rebecca Deen, UT Arlington associate professor and chair of the Political Science Department, discussed the end of the state legislative session and upcoming elections with Jack Fink of KTVT CBS 11. The interview also ran on Yahoo! News.

Political grade

Texas Gov. Greg Abbott has given the recently adjourned 2021 legislative session a “D” grade. But Thomas Marshall, a UT Arlington political science professor, disagrees: As of last Tuesday morning, he’d give the session, from a conservative point of view, an “A-minus,” The Dallas Observer reported.

Deep sea archeology

Ashley Lemke, UT Arlington assistant professor of anthropology, is part of a team studying the Alpena-Amberly Ridge, which is deep in Michigan’s Lake Huron, The Alpena News reported. The team’s work also was featured in Scientific American.

Student places second

Maria Rodriguez, a student in UT Arlington’s College of Architecture, Planning and Public Affairs, won second prize in the Formica Corp. 2021 FORM Student Innovation Competition, Designers Today reported. Rodriguez designed a new portal desk that ensures safe distancing between employees.
