Community college transfer students
The University of Texas at Arlington’s enrollment and admissions team spoke with The Dallas Morning News’ Al Día edition about steps community college students can take to successfully transfer to four-year colleges. Melissa Martínez Domínguez, assistant director of admissions at UT Arlington, recommended that students review the dates for submitting applications, speak with college counselors and attend events or virtual forums to get more information about programs they are interested in.
X-ray bursts & neutron stars
Nevin Weinberg, UTA associate professor of physics, is leading a project to study the explosive phenomena of X-ray bursts in order to better understand neutron stars, ScienMag and Phys.org reported. Funded by a three-year grant from the National Science Foundation’s Division of Astronomical Sciences, the project will also involve students from UTA and physicists from the University of Virginia. "Apart from a black hole, a neutron star is the most dense, compact known stellar object," Weinberg said. “If you took a teaspoon of this material, it would weigh more than a billion tons. At these very high densities—densities higher than the nucleus of an atom—we don't actually know how matter behaves."
DART board of directors
Michele Wong Krause, UTA alumnus, has been elected chair of Dallas Area Rapid Transit (DART) board of directors, DART.org and Railway, Track & Structures Magazine reported. "This is a transformative time for the agency," said Wong Krause. "DART continues to adapt to our pandemic challenges and develop industry-leading programs to serve the needs of our riders, while implementing improved customer experience initiatives that make traveling safer and easier."
