UTA graduation ceremonies
More than 5,400 students walked the stage at UTA’s fall graduation ceremonies, including 91 doctoral candidates, an increase of 40% over the previous year, KTIV NBC 4 reported. UTA’s graduates will enter the workforce at a time when job prospects are expected to be at their highest since the beginning of the pandemic.
Sibling reunion
Marilyn Reyes, who graduated with her Bachelor of Science in nursing at UTA’s weekend ceremonies, received a heartwarming surprise when her brother returned from military deployment in the Middle East to attend her graduation, CBS 11 and WFAA ABC 8 reported.
Research recognition
The University of Texas at Arlington again has been named to the elite group of R-1: Doctoral Universities—Very High Research Activity by the Carnegie Classification of Institutions of Higher Education, The Texas Tribune reported. Only nine public institutions in Texas are included in the category, which is the definitive list for the top doctoral research universities in the United States.
School board elections
Rebecca Deen, associate professor of political science and associate dean of the College of Liberal Arts, said savvy politicians often swoop in when they see a hot-button issue surface, but she worries the division and politics will scare away capable nonpartisan candidates from even running in school board elections, Yahoo!
