Britney Griner Trial

NBC 5 spoke with Brian Whitmore, UTA assistant professor of practice and expert in Russian affairs, on the trial of basketball star Brittney Griner, more than four months after her arrest in Russia. Whitmore cautioned against looking at the proceedings as a normal trial, saying Russian courts are “places where politics are decided.”

Fighting for Rights

The Omaha Daily Record profiled I Be Black Girl, a Nebraska-based organization focused on reproductive justice for Black females and feminine individuals. Directed by Ashlei Spivey, who graduated from UTA with a master’s in urban social planning, the group is focused on educating people on their reproductive rights.

Revolutionary Technology

A UTA bioengineer is leading a project that will develop nanomaterials that will take pictures and delivery medicine to patients, technology.org reports. Kytai Nguyen, bioengineering professor, was awarded a four-year grant for research aiming to develop the technology to combat peripheral arterial disease.

Prestigious Fellowship

A UTA alumna was accepted to a year-long fellowship with Harvard Medical School and Massachusetts General Hospital, U.S. Fed News reports. Jamyl Walker, a Doctor of Nursing Practice graduate, will train on palliative and hospice care in inpatient and outpatient settings.
