Faculty from UTA’s Department of History spoke with CBS 11 and FOX 4 about the breaking news of Queen Elizabeth II’s death. David Baillargeon, an assistant professor, is a historian of the modern British empire and Alex Hunnicutt, a senior lecturer, spoke about succession rules for the British monarchy.

Extreme heat and social justice

Karen Magruder, assistant professor of practice at UTA’s School of Social Work, was featured in the Fort Worth Report discussing how rising temperatures are also a social justice issue. “It is a social and environmental justice issue because of vulnerability,” said Magruder, whose research focuses on environmental justice and green social work. She went on to say that climate change has increased social and economic inequities.

Erin Chernak, an industrial organizational psychology professor at UT Arlington, spoke with KERA about pilot shortages. As summer travel ramped back up and exceeded pre-pandemic levels, the U.S. commercial aviation industry wasn’t ready to meet the demand with staffing, Chernak said.
