Standardized tests

Daniel H. Robinson and Emily Cole of UT Arlington spoke with The Washington Post about standardized tests for elementary school students and the basis of President George W. Bush’s 2002 No Child Left Behind law. Robinson is associate dean of research and professor of curriculum and instruction with UTA’s College of Education. Cole is a graduate student in the mind, brain, and education program at UTA.

College plans for minority students

The Fort Worth Star-Telegram listed The University of Texas at Arlington as a higher education partner with Tarrant To and Through (T3). T3 is a partnership of school districts, corporations, nonprofits, colleges and universities that seeks to boost the number of Tarrant County high school graduates who enroll in college and earn their degrees.

Philosophy in 3D

Eli Shupe, UTA assistant professor of philosophy and humanities and co-director of the University’s Medical Humanities and Bioethics Program, launched a project to create 3D-printed models of philosophical thought experiments, Daily Nous reported. Shupe worked with Morgan Chivers, a librarian and artist-in-residence who works at UTA’s FabLab, as well a team of undergraduate research fellows to develop other open-access materials “designed to teach learners of all ages about the problems of philosophy."

The Kevin Sloan Scholarship Endowment

Former UTA architecture Professor of Practice Kevin Sloan, who passed away in October 2021, made a lasting impact during his 40-year career in landscape architecture, Eureka Alert reported. Now friends and colleagues have created an endowed scholarship to celebrate his life and contributions to the profession. The Kevin Sloan Scholarship Endowment will fund scholarships for undergraduate and graduate students majoring in architecture who demonstrate financial need. The first scholarship will be awarded in the fall of 2023.
