Hurricane preparedness

Researchers from The University of Texas at Arlington are working in the Corpus Christi Bay area to develop a dashboard that gives coastal communities real-time environmental information to better prepare for tropical storms and hurricanes, the Victoria Advocate reported. Michelle Hummel, assistant professor of civil engineering, said the dashboard will improve how residents engage with environmental quality data and increase their awareness of potentially harmful conditions.

UTA alumna remembered

Family and friends held a celebration of life for Jacqueline Pokuaa, UTA School of Social Work alumna, who was shot while on duty at Methodist Dallas Medical Center, Fox 4 News reported. Pokuaa loved people and could always be relied on for help when someone was in need, family members said.

Architectural drawing award

A drawing by Steven Quevedo, associate professor of architecture, was named a finalist for Architizer's 2022 One Drawing Challenge. Quevedo said his artwork “evokes the nature of how cities transform throughout time by demolition, reuse or new construction.”
