Retired UT Arlington baseball coach Marvin “Butch” McBroom, who won a school-record 756 games from 1974 to 1999, died at his Granbury home Thanksgiving morning, The Dallas Morning News reported. “The impact Butch McBroom made on UT Arlington baseball is immeasurable — he nurtured and forged the program into what it is today,” Jon Fagg, UT Arlington athletic director, said in a statement.

Steering device for autonomous cars

Weidong Zhou, UT Arlington professor of electrical engineering, is leading a project that will explore an optical laser beam steering device for 3D sensing in autonomous driving cars, Novus Light Technologies Today reported. “Right now most existing methods use mechanical movements to steer the light beam direction,” Zhou said. “That’s slow and bulky. What we’re doing is much faster, very compact and more reliable.”
