Parent and Family Weekend

UTA Parent and Family Weekend 2015

Monday, October 26, 2015

Hundreds of Maverick families got a taste of UTA excellence as they visited sons and daughters at their home away from home for Parent and Family Weekend October 23 through 25, 2015. The weekend offered families a chance to visit dorms, attend panel discussions with professors, cheer on the Movin’ Mavs wheelchair basketball team, and take campus tours. A pumpkin decorating contest gave younger siblings, who are the Mavericks of the future, a fun taste of college.

Students enjoyed seeing Maverick pride on display on every corner. “I see it everywhere. Parents wearing Maverick Mom shirts and Maverick Dad shirts. It’s amazing!” said Freshman Amber McDonald, whose entire family came to visit.

The highlight of the weekend was a barbecue dinner with President Vistasp Karbhari which featured several student performances.

Cathryn St. Julien, mother of a sophomore Geophysics major, offered an enthusiastic description of the weekend. “I’m so proud of my daughter being here at UT Arlington,” she said. "I love the school spirit, I love the professors, I just love the entire college experience!"
