UTA Cold Storage Vault Preserves Texas History

Construction is complete on a new cold storage vault at UTA's Central Library. It will preserve millions of photographic negatives in danger of deterioration. The negatives are part of UTA's Special Collections which documents 150 years of Texas history.

A $300,000 grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities and generous contributions from the Amon G. Carter Foundation, the Adeline & George McQueen Foundation, the Crystelle Waggoner Charitable Trust, the Summerfield G. Roberts Foundation and Union Pacific funded the climate-controlled vault.

Time and exposure to air cause negatives to deteriorate. A few of the negatives are showing signs of deterioriation, but this state-of-the-art vault will preserve UTA's extensive collection for 500 years or more.
