Enhanced Warnings

UTA Research to Improve Flash Flood Warnings

A new cell phone app developed by UTA civil engineer DJ Seo and a network of ultrasound sensors could lead to more accurate warnings about flash flooding.

Seo's iSeeFlood app, now available for download for Android cell phones, encourages the general public to report rising water levels. Information gleaned from those reports, combined with data from the Collaborative Adaptive Sensing of the Atmosphere, or CASA, radar system and a network of high tech water level sensors will lead to enhanced warnings about flash flooding events. Seo is working closely with cities across North Texas and the National Weather Service.
