UTA Doctoral Program Among Nation's Most Diverse

The Math Department at The University of Texas at Arlington has one of the nation's most diverse doctoral programs, due in large part to the Graduate Assistance in Areas of National Need (GAANN) fellowship program. The federally funded grant program is awarded to departments to assist traditionally underrepresented students earn doctoral degrees, which often lead to highly sought after jobs in education or the STEM fields.

The department is transforming mathematics research and education, serving more than 10,000 students a year with nationally recognized faculty. In 2013, the department received the American Mathematical Society’s Award for an Exemplary Program or Achievement by a Mathematics Department.
