FTP Using Internet Explorer

System requirements: Windows

Description:

This page provides instructions on using FTP with Internet Explorer.

How to Get:

These instructions are intended for users running Windows operating system and using Internet Explorer version 6.0 or higher. You cannot use this method to connect to your Linux accounts (for example, Omega and Gamma).

How to Use:

  1. If you are not on the UTA domain, establish a VPN connection (off campus).
  2. Open Internet Explorer and type ftp://  followed by the server name in address bar. If you do not know to which server you need to connect, review the information on the main FTP page. For example, to connect to student J: drives you would type ftp://students.uta.edu
  3. When prompted for username and password, type uta\ followed by your NetID and your password and click Log On. Your password must not be expired. You can verify the validity of your password and/or choose a new password at the Self Service page.
  4. Depending on which server you are connecting, you will be presented with different folder options. Navigate to the appropriate folder:
    • If you are a student and connecting to your J: drive select StudentHomeFolders
    • If you are a student and connecting to your web folder select StudentWebs
    • If you are a student and connecting to your class folders select ClassesFolders
    • If you are a faculty/staff and connecting to your J: drive select faculty_staff
    • If you are a faculty/staff and connecting to your departmental shared drive select shared_data
  5. Navigate to your NetID to see your J: drive content or department abbreviation to see your departmental shared drive.
