Known Issues:

Several incompatibility issues with certain enterprise software applications have been discovered. At this time, OIT can not support High Sierra until all management systems and vendor applications are updated by their respected manufacturers.

How to Get:

Apple provides free updates for macOS via the Software Update feature in the Apple Menu.

Support:

OIT Support for macOS 10.13 "High Sierra" is not available at this time. Thorough testing is underway in order to bring this latest operating system to UTA Assets. It is not recommended to perform an upgrade yet.

Apple lists the following compatible computers for macOS 10.13 "High Sierra":

  • iMac: Mid 2011 or newer
  • MacBook Pro: Late 2011 or newer
  • MacBook Air: Mid 2011 or newer
  • In order to upgrade your computer to macOS 10.12, you must have one of the following versions currently installed on your Mac computer.
  • macOS 10.12 Sierra
  • OS X El Capitan v10.11
  • OS X Yosemite v10.10
  • OS X Mavericks v10.9
  • OS X Mountain Lion v10.8
  • OS X Lion v10.7

Since version 10.6, the Mac OS X no longer needs the Cisco VPN tool to connect to the UTA VPN server. Detailed instructions are available on OIT’s website.

UTA no longer supports SecureDoc on Apple computers. OIT now requires full disk encryption using a combination of Filevault2, backing up the encryption key automatically to the University's JAMF management system.

Backing up data is the responsibility of the client.  One such method is burning data to a CD or DVD.  Modern versions of macOS allow you to utilize the Apple native tool Time Machine.  If you use Time Machine, you will need to enable it, and be familiar with how to recover data using it.
