Mathematica How To Obtain for Mac OS X


The instructions on this page are for university owned machines only that have "Property of UT Arlington" asset tags, also referred to as UTA assets in this document.  These are typical faculty/staff office computers that are connected to the UTA network. Please contact the OIT Help Desk for instructions on how to obtain Mathematica for computer labs utilizing the Mac software deployment system: JAMF.

How to Get:


To install Mathematica on non-UTA owned computers you will need to fill out the Wolfram's Staff Home Use Mathematica License form located at

To process the home-use license three conditions must be met:
1) Software must be requested using a "" or in some cases a "" email address
2) The software must be for a privately owned computer.  Computers owned/provided by UT Arlington are not eligible for the home-use license.
3) Home-use license is for faculty only.  Faculty may include professors, associate professors, assistant professors, instructors, lecturers, teachers, GRAs and GTAs.

The UT System has arranged to sell student licenses through HiEd Inc for $35.00 per year (January through December).  Please see  more information.


For installation of Mathematica on UTA owned computers you will need to contact the OIT Help Desk to request Mathematica to be advertise to your Mac from JAMF Self Service.

How to Use:

First request from the OIT Help Desk to advertise Mathematica to your computer from JAMF Self Service.  Please provide the OIT Help Desk with your computer's UTA inventory number.

Open the Self Service application found in Applications folder.

If JAMF Self Service is not install, install instructions for UTA owned Macs can be found here.

Login within Self Service with your UTA NetID.

In the right panel select the Mathematica Category.

Click the gray INSTALL button under Wolfram Mathematica 9.0.0, then click the blue INSTALL button. For those who wish to install the Mathematica 9 web plugins, click the gray INSTALL button under Wolfram Mathematica 9.0.0 Extras, then click the blue INSTALL button.

Once Mathematica is installed, open Mathematica from the Applications folder.

At the Activate Mathematica online window, select the Other ways to active button.

At the Select a method to active Mathematica window, click the Connect to a network license server option

At the Connect to a Network License Server window, enter the below server name:

Now click the Activate button.
