Application for Graduate Co-op BIOL 5349

BIOL 5349 can be used to satisfy the capstone requirement of the MSNT degree. It can only be taken in a student's last semester of the degree.

This course is designed to allow graduate students to receive credit for their relevant work experiences in the field. Students can receive 3 hours of course credit for their paid or volunteer hands-on work in an area of Biology, Environmental Science, Science Education, or Health-related sciences. Please note that you will be charged tuition for the number of credit hours received, just as you would for any other class. You must be working/volunteering at least 10 hours per week to enroll in this 3 credit class and must be employed for the duration of the semester. Your employer must agree to participate and will be asked to provide an evaluation of your performance as part of the course curriculum. The employment/volunteer position should be off-campus and could include clinical experience, wildlife/zoo, education, etc.

Co-op is a unique opportunity to reflect on how your work or volunteer experience complements your educational goals. Students who participate in Co-op will be expected to complete two case study papers describing impactful workplace experiences and analyzing them within the context of the field of biology and prior or current coursework.

The Co-op course also provides professional development opportunities through resume writing, interviewing, and workplace skills.
