It was a pleasure to host the annual retiree dinner here at UTA. It was wonderful being able to meet people about whom Lisa and I have heard so much – the instructor who made knowledge shine, the awe-inspiring researcher, the dedicated mentor, the skillful technician, the tremendous staff member who ensured that the university ran smoothly They have, through their years of dedicated service, given generously of their time, their intellect, passion and commitment. Our students continue to succeed and our reputation, as an institution, continues to soar because of what they have worked on tirelessly in the past, and because of their continued engagement with, and pride in the institution.
Events such as this not only offer us a means of staying in touch but, more importantly, allow us to sincerely thank them for all they have done, and continue to do, for this great institution. The University is built on their shoulders and on the tremendous foundation that they have provided. Our progress, our national rankings, our being named an R-1 University in the Carnegie Classification, our reputation for excellence in teaching and research, and our leadership position in ensuring access and student success all draw on the contributions of those who have come before us. Together, current and past employees, students and alumni, make up the Maverick family and because of it we are accelerating on our journey to ever-higher levels of excellence as the Model 21st Century Urban Research University, one of the best of the best – setting standards that others will follow.
