I was honored to have been asked to deliver the Keynote Address at the 2016 Immigrant Journey Awards luncheon earlier this month. The event, which is held in Dallas in recognition of Immigrant Heritage Month, celebrates and honors immigrant contributions in North Texas. Awards are presented in the categories of Immigrant Entrepreneur, Immigrant Professional Excellence, Immigrant Advocate, and Immigrant Spirit.
Dr. Michele Bobadilla of UTA was honored as an Immigrant Advocate for her tremendous outreach services and community engagement. Among the many activities she leads is the UTA University Crossroads which is based in Dallas. Her efforts, and those of other UTA personnel and supporters, impact thousands of students annually through SAT and Math preparation classes as well as college awareness/readiness programs. I am so proud of her and all of our wonderful staff who continually reach out into our communities to ensure that all students are made aware of the opportunities to fulfill their hopes for success in life through a college education at UTA.
As an immigrant myself, I have immense pride in being a citizen of this great nation to which I owe a great deal for the opportunities afforded to me – my speech can be found HERE.
