From the women playing in their first Women’s National Invitational Tournament (WNIT) to the men winning their first post-season tournament game, this was a year of achievement for both of our Maverick basketball teams. Head Coaches Krista Gerlich and Scott Cross have done a terrific job with our student athletes—both on and off the court—and so it was an easy decision for Athletic Director Jim Baker and me to extend their contracts. We now have two of the hottest young coaches in NCAA Division I basketball with us for a while longer—and already planning on coaching their teams to even higher level of excellence.

Maverick basketball is on the rise, and it’s becoming known on the national stage. I hope you will actively and enthusiastically support Maverick basketball by attending games, cheering on the teams at home and away games, and increasing your contributions to the Maverick Club. Click HERE to give today, and I encourage you to support at the Maverick level.

Our enthusiasm, support and pride is the engine that will ensure the continued growth of our basketball teams. Our coaches and students athletes are getting ready for what promises to be a great season. The home opener for your men’s basketball team is Saturday, November 12 (Homecoming) and the women’s basketball team home opener is Sunday, November 13. Season tickets will go on sale in early September. Lisa and I intend to be there, loud and proud, and we hope each of you will be there, too. Let’s fill the CPC this season and every season thereafter. We’ll let the Sunbelt Conference and all the others know that Maverick Basketball has arrived as a force—players and fans together.
