Deborah Behan PhD, RN-BC is a Clinical Associate Professor in the College of Nursing. She began teaching at UTA in 1999 in critical care. Deborah has taught undergraduate Nursing Research since 2007, and graduate Nurinsg Research since 2010. She has been the CON Coordinator for Honors since 2012. Deborah has been a Nurse Scientist at THR HEB since 2007 where her program of research is the Nurse Work Environment. She has been a member of the THR IRB since 2009.

2008 to present  IRB member, Texas Health Resources, Arlington, TX. Member of the IRB committee for all THR entity research projects. Expedited reviewer for studies not requiring full board review.

2001-2012           Hispanic Student Nurse Association (HSNA), Faculty Advisor, University of Texas at Arlington, TX. Started as a sponsor for Challenge to Leadership, under my direction became HSNA which was then recognized by the university as an organization.  Work with officers to schedule events during the academic year, help coordinate learning experiences, serve as a liaison between university and/or faculty projects and HSNA.  Used grant funding to send officers to national Hispanic Nursing Association and sought out funds to pay first registration of dues to join the association.  Participated in marketing and creating videos, literature, and seminars to promote nursing in the Hispanic communities.  This group was the first in the SON to create a portfolio.  Portfolios were presented to the faculty who adopted portfolios for use in classes.

2004-2006           TASK FORCES: HESI, Mentoring, Portfolio, APA, University of Texas at Arlington, TX., HESI was to improve NCLEX scores (98-100% pass rates).  Mentoring of new faculty to improve involvement and reduce questions.  Portfolio created to improve the ability to show strengths and weaknesses of students as well as begin portfolio for employment.  APA to improve consistency of student writing and faculty grading.

2004-2005              Faculty Issues Committee, SON, University of Texas at Arlington, TX.

Reviews concerns of faculty, reviews and updates the Nursing Faculty Handbook.  Responsible for Travel Fund, approved funds for faculty travel to present research and managed the bookkeeping for the travel funds. 

1998-1999           Curriculum Committee (Vice-Chair), CON, University of Oklahoma, Oklahoma City, OK., Reviewed curriculum of undergraduate and graduate programs.  Reviewed courses for overlaps, problems, updates to improve curriculum.

University senate meetings to solve campus wide issues of faculty.  Meetings with North Central Accreditation to support faculty input of university.
