Design of Optoelectronic and Microwave Devices and Circuits
Optical communication system simulation with Matlab programming and commercial OptSim programs. RF/analog and digital circuit design with standard CAD tools (Medici, HSPICE, SUPRUM, Libra, Cadence DA, etc.). Semiconductor heterostructures design of edge-emitting and surface-emitting light sources with mode simulation programs; design of photodetectors, phototransceivers and OEICs, 2 -D photonic bandgap crystals and passive optical devices.
Device/Circuit Fabrication
Over 3 years of extensive clean room experience in fabrication of discrete devices and OEICs (semiconductor edge emitting and surface emitting lasers, phototransceiver and arrays), including using of e-beam lithography and Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) for sub-micron features (photonic bandgap defect lasers). Major processes involved are: process development, mask design and photolithography; p-, n-ohmic, and interconnect metalization, wet and dry etching, PECVD and dielectric DBR deposition, AlGaAs, InAlAs oxidation, annealing, substrate removal, Zn diffusion, etc.
Measurements and Characterization
Semiconductor materials, optoelectronic devices and OEIC characterization using dc and high-speed electrical and optical techniques and as function of temperature (including cryogenic temperatures) and other parameters. These include: Material: photoluminescence (PL), electro-luminescence (EL), hall measurement, SEM, AFM, FTIR Laser: DC LIV, near- and far-field measurement, high speed modulation, eye diagram, S parameter, BER Receiver: dark current, responsivity, sensitivity, and high-speed modulation. Transceiver/OEIC arrays: uniformity study, crosstalk study LabVIEW: Familiar with LabVIEW programming.

Optical Components/subsystem Design, Specification and Qualification
Good knowledge in the area of next generation DWDM optical communications. Clear understanding of component requirements for optical systems. With experience of dense wavelength division multiplexing (DWDM), time division multiplexing (TDM), dispersion-management, polarization mode dispersion (PMD) and compensation, etc. Extensive experience in various communication/lightwave measurements: eye diagram (DCA), spectral and chirp measurement (OSA), Bit Error Rate test (BERT), S parameter measurement (network analyzer), jitter test, etc; Clear understanding the typical issues associated with transponders and possible design and manufacturing related issues. Clear understanding of different industrial specifications, including optical interfaces (ITU, Bellcore SONET, IEEE 10GbE), electrical interfaces (OIF SFI-4, XAUI, XFI), and reliability specs (GR-63, GR-468, GR-326, etc); Project management, including project definition, scheduling, cost and risk analysis, communications between internal engineers and external vendors.

To acquire knowledge, skills, and insight in design and analysis of functional circuits and modules employing Op Amps and nonlinear circuit elements such as diodes and transistors.To learn and to utilize the fundamental concepts of nonlinear electronic circuits in such design and analysis.Nonlinear, piecewise linear, and large and small DC and ac signal analysis and design concepts will be emphasized.The concepts learned will be applied to circuits employing the p-n diode, bipolar junction and field effect transistors, and Op Amps.DC biasing schemes for these devices will be developed.
