Joy Don Baker, PhD, RN-BC, CNOR, CNE, NEA-BC, has been a practicing perioperative nurse for over 35 years serving in roles from staff nurse to assistant vice president levels in hospitals across the US. She currently teaches in the graduate nursing administration program at The University of Texas at Arlington, fostering excitement for the profession. Dr. Baker also operates her own consulting service providing administrative, assessment, planning, and research consulting. Dr. Baker has served national AORN as board member and vice president. She currently serves as the AORN Journal Editor-in-Chief. She recently served as the AORN State Coordinator for Texas and Region V AORN Nursing Legislative Committee Coordinator. She has continued to be a speaker at the annual AORN Congress and will be speaking again in 2015 in Denver and authored Serious Games and Perioperative Nursing in the AORN Journal. Dr. Baker is an accomplished author and presenter. In 2013, she was a speaker at the VPNG Conference in Melbourne, Australia and in 2002, she was the keynote speaker for the Japanese Operating Nursing Academy Annual Congress in Chiba, Japan. Dr. Baker holds certifications in Informatics, Executive Nursing Administration, Education, and Perioperative Nursing. She currently teaches the Health Policy course for MSN students at UTA. In additional she teaches Nursing Informatics and uses Second Life during the course. She has serveed as the Director of Distance Education for the College of Nursing assisting faculty in use of Second Life to for example, hosingt a Genomic Journal Club or offering continuing education in the virtual world.
