Clinical Instrtuctor at College of Nursing and Health Innovation

Dolores is the Interim Director of the MSN Nurse Educator Program and a clinical instructor in the College of Nursing and Health Innovation. She is the Chair of the UTA Academic Standards Committee; she is also the Occupational Health Nursing Consultant for the UTA Animal Research Program. Dolores has served in a number of key positions within the College of Nursing: Director of the pre-licensure BSN program, Coordinator of the LEARN Accelerated BSN pre-licensure program, Coordinator of a Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board grant (GROWN) with Texas Health Resources, an area partner hospital system, Chair of the Undergraduate Nursing Education Curriculum Committee. Dolores has been on faculty with a UTA since 1998.

     - AP BSN N-1300 Introduction to Professional Nursing.

Dolores began her nursing career as a Licensed Practical Nurse; she received a BSN from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. Dolores obtained a Master of Science in Public Health Nursing from the University of North Carolina. Dolores has a long history of Community/Public health work. She taught basic health care in Guatemala and Honduras, cultural immersion in Cuernavaca, Mexico, and has worked with migrant workers in North Carolina. Additionally, Dolores has worked in Healthcare Administration, Occupational Health, Coronary Intensive Care, and Cardiac Rehabilitation.

Designed to introduce and transition the freshman and transfer pre-nursing student to the language of nursing, critical thinking, the essential academic skills for incoming students and the interpersonal skills required for success in nursing school and the nursing profession. Selected concepts and processes for professional nursing will be included in the course, including an introduction to nursing’s theoretical, philosophical, ethical, and legal dimensions.

NURSE 5361 - Advanced exploration of special topics applicable to clinical practice
Advanced exploration of special topics applicable to clinical practice. Course Outcomes Explore (in depth) nursing concepts related to selected patient population(s). Integrate advanced nursing concepts in the nurse educator role. Apply evidence based practice in the nurse educator role. Develop a portfolio of evidence based, culturally competent nursing interventions for use in nursing education.
