In January, UT Arlington's Office of Regulatory Services will be hosting its first “IRB Mini-Conference” with multiple sessions focusing on ethics, protocol preparation, and IRB review.  Attendees will have the opportunity to ask questions and obtain feedback on their specific protocols, and can earn credit toward training requirements! As the date and agenda become finalized, stay tuned for more details at their Facebook page,

For additional information about the IRB review and approval process or to schedule an IRB 101 presentation for your class please contact Robin Dickey at or check out the Regulatory Services website.

Team-Based Learning Special Interest Group (TBL SIG)

A new special interest group will be forming in the spring. Team-based learning will be explored, with opportunities to implement TBL practices into an existing course and to prepare for fuller implementation in the fall. SIG members will meet on a regular basis to discuss progress and implementation ideas. The first meeting will be held on Thursday, January 9, 2014, from 1:30 to 3:00 pm in Davis Hall 327. For more information, contact Dr. Lana Rings, Interim Director of the Center for Teaching and Learning Excellence.

Encourage Outstanding students to Participate in ACES 2014

During the coming week, as you're grading fall semester papers and reports, keep an eye out for exceptional student work that you might like to see presented at this spring's ACES conference. ACES -- UT Arlington's annual student research symposium -- won't be held until March 26, 2014, but the ACES website is now open to accept abstracts. (FYI, past ACES participants have made clear that the number one source of encouragement for presenting their work is direct encouragement from a faculty member.) For more information, visit the ACES website at

DEcember 2013 Commencement Schedule

If you're planning to participate in your school or college commencement ceremony this fall, you'll find important schedule information at

Did you know that ...

... Each Friday at lunch, UT Arlington faculty and staff can eat at the University Center's Connections Cafe for only $5.00 per person? What a great way for faculty to connect with students -- or each other -- over a casual all-you-can-eat lunch. Be sure to bring your MavExpress card to verify your employment status. Bon appetit!
