Faculty Orientation at UTA

Dear New Faculty:

We are honored to welcome you to Maverick country as a new member of our faculty. UTA's faculty is comprised of a talented group of award-winning teacher-scholars that form the core of a dynamic community committeed to student success and academic excellence.  UTA is a Hispanic Serving Institution (HSI) and our enrollment continues to break records every year.  UTA graduated its largest class in history in May 2017, conferring 5,600 degrees in ceremonies over three days. These graduates add to the 214,000 UTA alumni around the globe.

UTA's Faculty Affairs holds two faculty orientations. The Fall orientation is a day-long event open to ALL faculty that inculdes a welcome from UTA President Vistasp Karbhari and Provost Teik Lim. A Spring orientation is also held for faculty here after August.

Important information that can help ease your transition to UTA:

  • Blackboard is the primary learning management systems (LMS) for online course material. Once your department has finalized your appointment, a course shell will be created for each of your courses. You will simply have to add your course information (readings, assignments, blogs, Kaltura, etc.) and make your course shell “available” to your students.  The UTA Blackboard web address is http://elearn.uta.edu and the log-in and password are your UTA Net ID and password. To preview some of the functions of Blackboard and view tutorials for the LMS, visit http://ondemand.blackboard.com/. Additional information and tutorials are available at: http://www.uta.edu/blackboard/faculty/.  Formal training sessions that cover such topics as Blackboard, Blogs, UTA Box, WebEx, Wikis, and Adobe Connect are offered by the Center for Distance Education (CDE). Both face-to-face training and webinars are available throughout the year. To see upcoming training opportunities go the CDE training website: http://www.uta.edu/blackboard/faculty/training.php. To enroll or ask questions about training contact CDE training by email: cdetraining@uta.edu.
  • Syllabus Preparation. All syllabi must be posted online by the first day of classes to the instructor's Mentis  Profiles (https://mentis.uta.edu/public/). Step-by-step instructions are available here. Faculty in Engineering and the College of Business are asked to post their syllabi on our new profile system which is Digital Measures. Faculty in the rest of the colleges and schools are asked to continue to post on Mentis until the transition to the new system is completed.

Mentis: The Faculty Profile System

https://mentis.uta.edu/public/

All instructors are required to maintain a faculty profile on UTA’s Mentis profile system. The university considers this the official location for your state required syllabus (always to be posted by the first day of class) and their official record of your CV. We also recommend that you post a professional picture here and use the system to keep your CV current. You log on to Mentis using your NetID and password.
