Leadership Academy I

The UTA Leadership Academy is designed as a broad leadership development program that includes the essential characteristics and skills needed to be an effective leader in a higher education environment.

It is a program that will focus on practical leadership topics, issues within higher education, and personal leadership development. The program is based on semester cohort of fifteen to twenty faculty and staff. Staff and faculty participants can be nominated to the academy by self-nomination or recommendation by a Chair/Director/Supervisor, Vice President or a Dean.

A selection committee will then determine which nominees will participate in the spring semester 2019 cohort. Faculty nominees can be a tenured or full-time non-tenure track faculty member. Staff nominees must be in an A&P (Administrative and Professional) position with at least three years of professional experience and one year of continuous full-time employment with UT Arlington.

Leadership Academy II

The UTA Leadership Academy II: Administrative Fellows Program is the second stage of UTA’s Leadership Academy open to faculty and staff who successfully completed Leadership Academy I and want to explore the world of higher education administration.

We encourage the participation of all graduates of Leadership Academy I–staff, tenured and tenure-track faculty—regardless of gender, college, or academic discipline.  The UTA Leadership Academy Administrative Fellows Program is designed to complement the Leadership Academy I Program by providing staff and faculty members the opportunity to gain hands-on administrative experience at UTA that will allow them to develop their leadership skills. We have had between two (2) and five (5) Leadership Academy Administrative Fellows positions each academic year.

The UTA Leadership Academy Administrative Fellows is a project based program. Fellows will assume the duties as detailed by their respective administrators, and will mainly be responsible for coordinating the initiatives/activities associated with a project for that particular administrative office. In return for their service, these Fellows will receive a one semester stipend of $2,000 or a 9-month stipend in the amount of $4,000. Depending on the nature/extent of the expected duties, teaching release time (up to one course per semester) may be negotiated as appropriate. Staff will be released five hours per week to work on the project.

The Fellows are expected to have excellent interpersonal, communication, and leadership skills. To be eligible, the Fellows must have graduated from the UTA Leadership Academy I Program.

  1. A completed application form 
  2. A one-page Statement of Interest that includes the division or unit that you are interested in.
  3. A current CV or resumé and
  4. A brief letter of support from the faculty member’s Supervisor, Department Chair or Dean.

The applications are due by August 1, 2018.

 

The division heads will review the applicants for that division, interview and choose the fellow with whom they wish to work.
