Data Scientist: The Best Job in America
Since 2016, Glassdor report ranks Data Scientist as the best job in the US. This report ranks jobs according to each job's Glassdoor Job Score, determined by combining three factors: number of job openings, salary, and overall job satisfaction rating.

Data Scientist Opportunities are Growing
According to LinkedIn’s 2017 U.S. Emerging Jobs Report, Machine Learning Engineer and Data Scientist jobs respectively increased about 10 and 6.5 times since 2012. Importantly, currently around 35k people in the US have data science skills, while hundreds of companies are hiring.

Data Scientist: High Salary
The Burtch Works Study: Salaries of Data Scientists published in May 2018 show that data science salaries continue to be holding steady. Individual contributors at level 1 earn a median base salary of $95,000, increasing to $165,000 for those at level 3. For data science managers, those at level 1 earn a median base salary of $145,000, while those at level 3 earn $250,000.

According to The Burtch Works Study, data scientists employed by technology companies earn higher median base salaries than those employed in other industries. However, the gap between salaries in technology and other industries is shrinking.

Data Scientists have the highest job satisfaction
Furthermore, KDnuggets Poll shows that Machine Learning Engineers, Researchers, and Data Scientists have the highest job satisfaction. The following figure shows the results, based on 635 voters, bar width corresponds to the number of respondents, and (2 : Very satisfied, 1 : Somewhat satisfied, 0 : Neutral, -1 : Somewhat unsatisfied, -2 : Very unsatisfied).
