FALL 2019 COMMENCEMENT INFORMATION
College of Science August and December 2019 Graduates,
Congratulations on the completion of your degrees from the UT Arlington College of Science! You are receiving this message because you previously indicated you wish to participate in the commencement ceremony. If you have reconsidered and no longer wish to participate in the ceremony, please reply to the email regarding commencement sent to your student email address with “Not Walking” in the subject line so we can discontinue sending you information on the ceremony.
Please take time to read through this information regarding the commencement ceremony process before contacting us with questions, as the answers to the most frequently asked questions are contained below.
When/Where: The ceremony recognizing the August and December graduates of the College of Science and the College of Education is scheduled for Friday, December 13 from 7-9 p.m. in College Park Center (CPC) on the UTA campus.
Check-in: Graduates should arrive at Gate One of CPC (west side of building at 3rd Street and Spaniolo Dr.) for check-in between 5:30 and 6 p.m. No rehearsal is required, but it is important that you arrive on time so that you can receive all the necessary instructions and locate your place in line.
Tickets for Graduates & Guests: UPDATED INFORMATION ON GRADUATE TICKETS: Be sure to print your individual graduate ticket when it is emailed to you. Only students who claim their initial six guest tickets will receive a graduate ticket. Graduate tickets will be emailed directly from the box office (email@example.com) after Round One ends. We have not been given a specific date for this.
Tickets are required for everyone attending the ceremony, including children ages two and older. Guests and graduates must arrive with printed tickets. Your families and guests will enter CPC through Gates Two, Three and Four (northwest, north and northeast entries to CPC) which will open at 6 p.m. for guest seating.
Please follow these instructions carefully so you don’t miss your opportunity to claim tickets:
Ticketing Offer #1: November 12-18 – Ceremony tickets must be claimed by the graduate through the UTA ticketing site (www.utatickets.com) which will go live at approximately 10 a.m. on November 12. You must log in and follow the prompts to claim up to 6 guaranteed guest tickets reserved in your name. This offer will expire at 12 p.m. on November 18, after which time your six reserved guest tickets will no longer be available. Any unclaimed guest tickets will be returned to a central ticketing pool for redistribution. The number of additional tickets past this point will depend entirely on how many graduates have already claimed tickets, but with the larger number of graduates from our combined colleges, there is no guarantee that additional tickets will be available in Rounds 2 or 3. Please be aware that our office cannot help you obtain more than your allotted number of tickets or make any exceptions to the university ticketing policy. If you do not already have an account set up on www.utatickets.com you need to do that immediately so you can claim your tickets when ticketing opens. Graduate tickets will be sent from the box office by email to graduates who claim guest tickets in Round One.
Ticketing Offer #2: November 19-25 – Graduates may be able to claim additional guest tickets (if available) from the central ticketing pool while quantities last. The number of additional tickets (if any) will be determined by the number of unclaimed tickets from Offer #1. This offer begins at 10 a.m. on November 19 and expires at 12 p.m. on November 25.
Ticketing Offer 3: November 26-December 3 – Graduates may be able to claim additional guest tickets (if available) from the central ticketing pool while quantities last. The number of additional tickets (if any) will be determined by the number of unclaimed tickets from Round 2. If available, this offer will begin at 10 a.m. on November 26 and will expire at 12 p.m. on December 3.
For the convenience of your friends and family who may not be able to attend in person, we are pleased to announce that the ceremony will be live-streamed so it can be viewed online in real time at www.uta.edu/commencement. The ceremony will also be professionally videotaped and will be available at no charge for download several weeks afterward on the same website.
What to wear/bring: Your custom UT Arlington graduation regalia should already be ordered from the UTA Bookstore. If you do not yet have your regalia you must contact the UTA Bookstore immediately to see if they can accommodate you. Doctoral students must visit the Bookstore in person.
There are no specific requirements for clothing or footwear to be worn with your graduation regalia. Be aware that you will be standing for long periods of time on concrete floors, so please wear comfortable shoes. You are allowed to decorate your mortarboard, so let your creativity shine.
Because there is no secure storage area backstage during the ceremony and you will not return backstage, no personal items should be brought backstage, including purses, keys, cameras, sunglasses, etc. This includes cell phones! Please leave all personal items locked in your car out of sight, or with your guests.
Announcements, Invitations & Rings: Graduation rings, announcements or invitations are optional; if desired, they can be ordered online at www.jostens.com or at the UTA Bookstore.
Photos: FLASH Photography is the official ceremony photographer and will photograph each graduate both on-stage and backstage during the commencement ceremony. Complimentary proofs will be mailed to the graduates soon after the ceremony, using information you will provide on the back of your graduate card at check-in. Parking: Guest parking for the ceremony is available in the Park South, Park Central and Park North Garages on Center Street between UTA Boulevard and CPC. Additional parking is available in Lots 38, 39, F11, F12, 47, 53, F10, and at Lipscomb Hall and the Center for Continuing Education. Traffic will be very congested before and after the ceremony. Please allow plenty of time to arrive at check-in, as your drive time to campus may be much longer than normal.
ADA Accommodations: If YOU (the graduate, not your guests) have any mobility issues or need any other form of accommodation, please notify Lori Norris (817-272-3494 or firstname.lastname@example.org) no later than Monday, November 25 so appropriate arrangements can be made for you to participate in the ceremony.
For information on ADA accommodations needed for your guests, contact Ms. Norris as early as possible. There will be a drop off for guests with mobility issues on Spaniolo Drive across from the main CPC entrance in the Arlington Hall circle drive. Handicapped parking will be available in the Park South Garage on all levels, and an elevator is available. See http://www.utacollegepark.com/visit-us/map.php for locations. Please be sure that your guests are aware that they may have to walk several blocks from parking areas to reach CPC from parking areas. Guests who do not normally use a wheelchair or walker may find it beneficial to rent or borrow one for the day of the ceremony.
After the ceremony: Please notify your guests that graduates will exit the arena through a private stairway onto Moritz Plaza (between CPC and the College Park parking garages.) Guests will exit through Gates 2, 3 and 4, and should plan to meet graduates on Moritz Plaza. It may be helpful to identify a meeting spot in that area prior to the ceremony, as that area will be very congested after the ceremony.
Please be aware and make your guests aware that College Park Center has a “clear bag policy” in effect. For more information on what guests are allowed to bring into CPC see https://www.utacollegepark.com/about/policies/bag-policy-and-code-of-conduct.php. Also, please make your guests aware that helium balloons and strollers are not allowed in CPC, and should be left in their vehicles. If these items are brought to CPC, they must be checked at Guest Services prior to the ceremony, which will delay guests being seated.
