Overview
USB and External Drive Storage:
When working with sensitive Confidential or Controlled University data, you must be vigilant in protecting this data. We are required to have this data encrypted when transmitted and stored. The Information Security Office requires storage devices containing this sensitive data to be FIPS Certified or FIPS Validated, have Hardware encryption with a keypad that allows you to enter a PIN to unlock the drive to access the data, and the drive should erase itself after repeated failed attempts to login.
The Information Security Office has reviewed two manufacturers of these drives, Apricorn Aegis drives and SecureUSB drives. There may be other manufacturers that have acceptable drives. if you have questions on a different manufacturer or drive, contact the Information Security Office at 817-272-5487 or by email at security@uta.eduEncrypted USB Flash Drives
