What Can You Do With a Sociology Degree? Sociology prepares students for a wide range of careers in business and industry, government, education and social service agencies. Many positions for sociology majors involve research. Surveys have shown that sociology students earning a baccalaureate degree in Sociology are employed to conduct research for a variety of organizations such as: city government, public housing agencies, marketing firms, hospitals, mental health centers, police departments, and the media. Sociologists are often employed in industry, advertising, public relations, human resources, and labor-management relations. Examples of specific occupations held by sociology majors include: human resources manager, public relations expert, organizational analyst, health care administrator, educational counselor, health care counselor, city planner and teacher.
