Information for Current Students Majoring in Sociology at UTAThe major program of study in sociology has three principal objectives: A major in sociology requires the completion of 13 courses in sociology, including 4 required courses and 1 course in anthropology. Our course offerings are sufficiently broad to incorporate a variety of individual interests. Optional Specializations in SociologyStudents majoring in Sociology may pursue a general course of study in the discipline or concentrate in a specific area. The purpose of specialization is to provide the student with a focused educational experience related to different career paths and areas of interest within the context of a broad liberal arts education. Each concentration requires the completion of four courses. Additional courses not listed may be counted with approval. Please see the Sociology academic advisor for more information on completing an area concentration. The concentrations include:Human Capital and Work Non-Profit and Community Organizations Health, Science and Technology Social Services and Diverse Populations Minoring in Sociology Students may minor in Sociology. A minor in sociology requires 18 semester hours, at least six of which must be 3000/4000 level. Student OrganizationsAlpha Kappa Delta (AKD): International Sociology Honor Society ScholarshipsThe Blaine T. and Jean W. Williams Endowed Scholarship in Sociology is granted annually to a junior or senior majoring in Sociology at the University of Texas at Arlington. The Fast Track Program
