Student Organizations Alpha Kappa Delta (AKD)UTA faculty advisor: Dr. Kelly Bergstrand Alpha Kappa Delta (AKD) is an international sociology honor society founded by University of Southern California sociologist Dr. Emory S. Bogardus in 1920. AKD is dedicated to promoting, facilitating, and recognizing academic scholarship. It is an integral part of many sociology programs. It has chartered more than 490 chapters throughout the world, and over 80,000 students and scholars have been initiated into the Society in the past eight decades. The Sociology Program at UTA inducts eligible students into AKD each spring. Eligible students are contacted by the Sociology Program and invited to submit an application. Eligibility requirements are listed below. The Alpha Kappa Delta Constitution (Article III, Section 3) states that undergraduates must meet the following minimum criteria (chapters may increase these standards)

Useful Links Sociology Student Association (SSA)UTA faculty advisor: Dr. Kelly Bergstrand The Sociology Student Association (SSA) is an officially recognized, student-led organization at the University of Texas at Arlington. The purpose of SSA is to demonstrate the practical and theoretical aspects of Sociology in ways beneficial to its members and the surrounding Arlington community. SSA is open to both undergraduate and graduate students interested in sociology and membership is not limited to sociology majors. SSA engages in a range of activities including career development events, educational activities, community involvement, and social events.
