The Agency

Over 87 years ago, grieving the loss of her son,Mrs. Lena Pope reached out to help the most vulnerable children and families in Fort Worth. Over the years, the agency named in her honor has changed the way we serve children and families to meet the changing needs of the community.

Currently Lena Pope offers prevention, early intervention, education and counseling through the following programs:

  • Early Learning Center provides child care and learning for children ages 6 weeks to 5 years old.
  • Chapel Hill Academy charter school provides elementary education to over 500 students in south Fort Worth.
  • Counseling Services provides family therapy, play therapy, and individual counseling to help children and families grow stronger.
  • School & Community Based Services provides programs in the community to help at-risk youth and their families get the academic, behavioral and social skills to be successful.
  • Marty Leonard Community Chapel provides a beautiful and serene setting for weddings,  and other  life affirming ceremonies.


The Position

The Counseling Services department is key to helping create hope, happiness and success for children and families. Lena Pope is known for providing high-quality, evidence-based counseling and behavioral health services for our clients while working in cooperation with a variety of funders, insurance providers and governmental agencies. The Director of Counseling Services has a thorough understanding of contract and grant applications, reporting and accounting;and the skill to steward these resources effectively. The Director of Counseling Services is comfortable supervising staff, interacting with clients, making reports to the Board of Directors and representing Lena Pope in community collaborations.

The Director of Counseling Services is responsible for all Counseling Services programs (including Substance Abuse Treatment Services), contracts and grants under the general supervision of the CEO.


  • Provide  direct supervision to all Counseling  Services  Supervisors and administrative staff.
  • Provide  strategic and operational direction to the Counseling Services department which includes 26 staff and an operating budget of $2.4M.
  • Promote an environment  of cultural competency for all clients, families, staff and stakeholders.
  • Monitors all contracts and grants to insure internal and external compliance.
  • Promotes and maintains highly effective relationships with various community partners and collaborations.


The Candidate


  • Master's or Doctoral degree  in a related field is required.   Clinical licensure preferred.

Professional Experience

  • 5+ years of supervisory and budget management experience preferred.
  • Broad  knowledge  and  practice  of  various  treatment   modalities,  both diagnostic and clinical.
  • Experience  providing operational  oversight  to  a  significant  department, project or initiative which includes budgetary accountability.

  • Excellent communication, team-building,and time management skills.
