Advising and Registration

Advising

All freshmen are advised through the University Advising Center. During New Maverick Orientation, you will meet with an academic advisor who is trained for your major. Your advisor will give you information about the curriculum and requirements for your degree, and will schedule your first-semester classes. The advising process takes place in three phases:

Advising Session

A group advising session will take place on day 1 of orientation. However, you will meet briefly one-on-one with your advisor to discuss your preferences and answer your questions.

Orientation Checkout

Before leaving orientation at the end of day 2, you will have the opportunity to reconnect with your advisor to address any unanswered questions you may have. You will be able to make schedule changes at this time.

Review your Schedule

After advising, you should review your schedule and explore their class options before returning for Day 2 of orientation.

Be patient. This process takes some time, but it is intended to provide you with a well-balanced and appropriate schedule of classes for your first semester.

REGISTRATION

Class Registration will be held on Day 2 of Orientation. Students must attend the entire two-day orientation to be cleared for registration. Check with the Office of Admissions or the appropriate department to make sure that all necessary test scores, transcripts, and health insurance (international students) documentation has been received and that no holds are present on your account. Orientation and academic department holds will be removed when you attend orientation. If these factors have not been attended to, your ability to register for classes could be delayed.
