Next Generation Initiatives

The program proposal cycle for 2017 is now OPEN! The submission period is open from December 15th, 2016-February 15th, 2017. Please read below for more information and see the submission form in the drop down menu at the top left of this page.

If you have an exciting idea to enhance the Maverick student experience that you always wanted to try, your time has come. Inspired by the vision of our new Vice President for Student Affairs, we are issuing a call for proposals which seek innovative student development programing. To encourage cutting-edge experimentation with the potential for great returns, the Office of the Vice President for Student Affairs will identity the most promising projects and provide support to pilot them. These projects will be titled Next Generation Initiatives (NGIs).

Next Generation Initiatives Awards (NGIAs) are designed to:

  • Encourage cutting-edge thinking and advancement of student-success programming
  • Provide seed grants between $3,000 - $5,000 to trial-run new activities
  • Foster the creation of collaborative ventures within the Division of Student Affairs as well as between Student Affairs and other departments on campus or off
  • Impact UT Arlington students with enhanced levels of engagement during their college journey

Core elements of innovation, collaboration and outreach are prioritized. Proposals that best demonstrate the potential for transformational impact based on these elements will be chosen by the NGIA Committee to receive funding. Of special interest to the NGIA Committee are proposals which speak to one or more of these qualities:

  • Originality and/or first-time being attempted
  • A reimagining of an existing program or service that addresses a recently evident need of our changing student body
  • Collaborative projects between student affairs departments, registered student organizations, academic departments, or with organizations in the community
  • Partnerships which unite parallel but non-integrated programs to increase their effect
  • Extend as well as deepen learning through student life involvement on campus
  • Project success pathways to increase student retention, satisfaction, persistence
