January paychecks affected by federal payroll tax debate

UT Arlington employees subject to the federal payroll tax may notice a difference in their Jan. 3, 2012, paychecks compared with previous months. February paychecks will be adjusted to reimburse affected employees for any additional January deduction.

The difference occurred because Congress extended the 2 percent payroll tax cut after the University’s payroll processing date of Dec. 21, 2011. As a result, the rate for the Jan. 3 paychecks increased temporarily from 4.2 percent to 6.2 percent.
