ARLINGTON - The University of Texas at Arlington's Movin' Mavs wheelchair basketball team tries for its eighth national championship at the March 12-14 National Intercollegiate Wheelchair Basketball Tournament at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater.

The third-ranked Movin' Mavs take on sixth-ranked Southwest Minnesota State at 1 p.m. Thursday, March 12. If the team advances, it will play at 2 p.m. Friday, March 13. The championship game is at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 14.

The Movin' Mavs were 15-5 for the season, placing them behind top-ranked UW-Whitewater (20-1) and second-ranked University of Illinois (19-2).

"We just want to be in the championship game," said Head Coach Doug Garner.

This is the first Movin' Mavs' season since the death in May 2008 of the team's founder and coach, Jim Hayes, who led the team to seven national championships.

"There's a little bit of pressure," Garner said of going into playoffs without Hayes.

"We put a lot of his things, his plays in place. These are the guys he recruited, even our first year players," said Garner, who served as assistant coach under Hayes.

"We want to make Coach (Hayes) and the University proud. When we're on the court, we represent the University and the legacy."
