UT Arlington Dining Services will help "sustain" vendors at downtown farmer's market

ARLINGTON - The University of Texas at Arlington will offer some neighborly hospitality to vendors at Arlington's new downtown farmers market when it opens Friday, Oct. 2. 

The University's Dining Services will provide free coffee and continental breakfast foods to the vendors at all 11 of the markets, which will be held from 9 a.m. to sellout Fridays through Dec. 18. The market is sponsored by Downtown Arlington Management Corp. It will be on Front Street, between Mesquite and Elm streets.
In keeping with the University's commitment to sustainability, vendors will be encouraged to bring their own coffee mugs. They will also be asked to return the washable trays used in food services so the trays may be reused on campus.

"UT Arlington is glad to assist in this project because, in addition to attracting more people downtown, the market will support the sustainable practice of buying locally produced foods," said Amy Schultz, associate vice president for communications and community relations and a member of the President's Sustainability Committee at UT Arlington.

Market vendors are expected to offer locally grown vegetables, fruits and nuts, honey, dried or fresh-cut flowers, bedding plants and shrubs, firewood, ladybugs, butterflies, worms for composting, cider and homemade baked, canned or preserved items among other goods.
