ARLINGTON - State Rep. Diane Patrick will host a discussion about the future of education in Texas, specifically student transition and accountability, when she hosts her Fourth Annual Education Policy Summit at The University of Texas at Arlington. The event will be held at 4 p.m. Monday, Oct. 25, 2010, in the E.H. Hereford University Center’s Bluebonnet Ballroom, 300 W. First St.

A panel discussion will feature UT Arlington President James D. Spaniolo, Tarrant County College Southeast President Judith Carrier, and Arlington school district Superintendent Jerry McCullough. Jeanne Gerlach, dean of the UT Arlington College of Education and Health Professions, will moderate the discussion.

Patrick, R-Arlington, is a longtime educator herself, said she hopes the summit will equip people with information about programs that successfully move students through the education system, from pre-school to post-graduation studies. Attendees will be invited to ask questions during breakout sessions that will follow the panel discussion.

Before being elected to the Texas House in 2006, Patrick served on the State Board of Education. She was a faculty member at UT Arlington from 1994-2007, and she also has taught at Texas Christian University.

The education summit is free and open to the public. For more information about the event, e-mail Ann Morris at
