Star-Studded Lineup
Planetarium is the first in Texas with new 3-D technology
The stars at night are bigger and brighter—even during the daytime—thanks to recent technology upgrades at The Planetarium at UT Arlington.
Digistar 4, the newest planetarium software system, enables audiences to see the far side of the moon, a distant star, the surface of the sun and various programs in 3-D. The planetarium has the only such system in Texas.
The first planetarium show using Digistar 4 was Secret of the Cardboard Rocket.
“Imagine taking a ride around Saturn in three dimensions,” says planetarium Director Levent Gurdemir, who notes that capabilities also include immersive full-dome video. “That’s the effect the viewer now experiences with the new equipment and software.”
The renovations include a digital light processing (DLP) projection system that brings digital clarity to images and videos.
