BOOTS TO BUSINESS (B2B)

Boots to Business (B2B) is the two-step entrepreneurial training program offered by the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) as a training track within the Department of Defense’s Transition Assistance Program (TAP).  This course is open to Servicemembers (including members of the National Guard and Reserves) and their spouses.  The curriculum provides assistance to those interested in exploring business ownership or other self-empoloyment opportunities by leading them through the key steps for evaluating business concepts and providing foundational knowledge required to develop a business plan.  In addition, participants are introduced to SBA resources available to access start-up capital, technical assistance and contracting opportunities.

A TWO STEP PROGRAM

STEP ONE:  INTRODUCTION TO ENTREPRENEURSHIP TWO-DAY COURSE

This two-day course is offered as a TAP training track for those interested in learning more about the opportunities and challenges of business ownership.  Subject matter experts and practitioners from SBA and its network of partners teach the course at over 180 military installations worldwide.  Participants learn business basics and techniques for evaluating the feasibility of their business concepts.

STEP TWO:  BOOTS TO BUSINESS FOLLOW-ON SUITE:  MARKET RESEARCH, BUSINESS FUNDAMENTALS, SPECIALTY TRACKS

The Boots to Business (B2B) Follow-on Program Suite is a multi-faceted program comprised of three components – Market Research, Business Fundamentals, and various specialty tracks – delivered jointly by the Institute for Veteran and Military Families (IVMF) at Syracuse University and The School of Hotel Administration at Cornell University.

Building on the knowledge gained in the introductory two-day B2B course, the follow-on program suite is designed to meet you wherever you are in your entrepreneurial journey – whether you’re ready to launch, need further insight on business fundamentals, or even desire industry-specific training. Each program track ranges from one to three weeks and is delivered online, providing the flexibility to complete the course within your own schedule.

With individualized support from expert faculty, entrepreneurs, and resource partners, you will receive a clear roadmap of the various pathways to business ownership – from startup and financing to maintenance and subsequent growth. The teams at IVMF and Cornell leverage over 10 years of experience in entrepreneurial instruction – and an innovative curriculum supported by veteran-specific entrepreneurship research – to provide you with personalized knowledge and expertise to build your successful entrepreneurial future.

BOOTS TO BUSINESS REVENUE READINESS (B2B RR)

Boots to Business (B2B) Revenue Readiness (B2B RR) is a six-week online training program designed to build on the business idea conceptualized during the introductory two-day B2B course and help you take your business idea from concept to actionable plan in a relatively short timeframe.

Structured as a virtual, interactive classroom, the program consists of “live” instructor-led sessions twice-per-week with corresponding assignments focused on identifying customers, developing a business model, and drafting a business plan. Each session is recorded for those who are unable to attend the ‘live’ session, providing you the flexibility to incorporate the course into your own schedule.

As a cohort participant, you will receive individualized feedback on your assignments from experienced business professionals. Upon conclusion of the course, B2B RR personally connects you with an appropriate veteran-focused small business mentor to further assist in achieving your business goals.

Through its extensive network of experienced course instructors, interactive curriculum, and individualized feedback, B2B RR launches you on to the path of entrepreneurial success and connects you with the resources for sustained growth.
