UTA electrical engineering student Tabita Barakagwira

Meet Tabita

My interest in tech began when I was forced to sign up for a computer engineering elective in high school. I had always doubted my ability to work with technology, whether typing on a keyboard or coding for the first time. There was always a discouraging voice in the back of my mind telling me I was not smart enough. Taking that elective helped me gain the confidence and develop the curiosity and love for technology that has enabled me to pursue a degree in electrical engineering. Ever since then, I have been on a journey of learning about new technologies and how they are changing our world.

When I was looking for schools that would help me pursue my degree in electrical engineering, the most important factors were that the school was innovative and well-accredited. Not only does UTA have a well-known, ABET-accredited engineering program, but it also has a great reputation as an R1 research university. Therefore, choosing UTA was a no-brainer for me.

I am proud to say that after coming here, I received everything I wanted from my degree program and more. I have taken classes with some amazing instructors who are at the top of their field. I also learned from and collaborated with students from all over the world. However, my favorite thing about UTA’s Electrical Engineering Department is their commitment to using feedback from faculty and students to make improvements to the program.

In addition, I found two internships through the career development resources at UTA. These experiences helped me realize my passion for creating solutions for both end-users and manufacturers in the industry. That is why I plan to continue working in the electronics manufacturing industry in the near future.
