NEW MAVERICK ORIENTATION FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Yes, all new students are required to participate in New Maverick Orientation. The information presented and the connections made during orientation are vital to your transition to UTA.
Follow the "Register" link at the top of the page and follow the instructions to log into the orientation registration portal. From there, select your orientation date, complete the registration process, and pay your orientation fee.

Prior to attending your Orientation sessions, new students should complete the pre-orientation modules. The modules provide a foundation for you as you come to campus to learn more about your transition to UTA. In addition, once you complete the modules and meet with an academic advisor. Completing modules and meeting with your advisor prior to your orientation session will prepare you for course registration during the orientation program.  

Orientation consists of a mixture of large group and small group sessions. During these orientations, you will get a taste of student life at UTA and learn about the variety of resources and programs available on campus. You will be able to visit university offices, connect with other students, and enjoy the amenities of our campus community.

 
Students are strongly encouraged to meet with an academic advisor advising PRIOR to orientation. Some advising options may be available during face-to-face orientations, but students often feel rushed during advising appointments that occur at orientation.

Freshmen will receive information from the University Advising Center, including steps to prepare for your advising session and setting up an advising appointment. Be sure to respond to those emails appropriately to make academic advising as smooth as possible.

Transfer students (domestic and international students) need to schedule an academic advising appointment with the department of their major prior to completing orientation.
International graduate students will meet with an academic advisor during a departmental orientation session. Contact the department of your academic degree program to learn more about your departmental orientation.

Orientation is offered on various dates for different types of students. The orientation registration portal will determine which orientation dates you are eligible for, and you may, from there, choose a date which best fits your schedule.


The orientation fees vary slightly by the type of program you attend.

First-year Students (summer 2-day sessions)

All first-year students (domestic or international) will attend a 2-day freshman orientation and will be charged a fee of $165 at the time of registration. An overnight stay is required for all orientation participants. This experience will include an overnight stay in a residence hall, dinner, breakfast, and fun activities to help you meet new people and make new friends.

First-year Students (winter 1 day sessions for spring admits)

First year students entering UTA in the spring will attend a 1-day session and will be charged a fee of $60.

Transfer and International Graduate Students

Transfer (domestic or international) and international graduate students will attend a 1-day orientation and will be charged a fee of $60.

Parents and Guests

All students are encouraged to have a parent or family member attend their orientation session and will be charged $50 for their guest.

Transfer students who are on active duty or are veterans from service in the US Armed Forces are eligible to attend a Veteran Orientation. The Veteran Orientation is similar in many ways to a Transfer Orientation session, but it includes additional information about veterans benefits and resources. Additionally, active duty or veteran students can attend a Veteran Orientation at no cost as one of UTA's ways of saying thank you for your service.

First-year students who are on active duty or are veterans from service in the US Armed Forces may not be able to select a Veteran Orientation through the orientation registration system. A student who is less than a year removed from completing high school will be better served by completing a freshman orientation session. However, adult students who are classified as first-year students would benefit from attending veteran orientation. Contact our office if you want to attend a veteran orientation but cannot select that option when choosing your orientation date. Your request will be reviewed within 2 business days.

Students who are receiving benefits from a family member who served in the US Armed Forces should attend an orientation session associated with their admission status (freshman or transfer).


YES! We have a great program planned for your parents and family, including all of the topics that are important to them: college finances, safety and wellbeing, and getting involved in our Parent and Family Association. Students are limited to 2 guests. 

Financial constraints will not prohibit you from attending orientation. Rather than paying the fees at the time of registration, students may request to defer their orientation fees. If you request a fee deferral, the fees will be posted to your student account in MyMav and would be due along with your tuition and fees for your first semester. To request a fee deferral, complete the Fee Deferral Request Form.
