BA in Sociology

The Bachelor of Arts in Sociology provides students a strong foundation in sociological theory and research and allows students to pursue electives within sociology relevant to their interests. This degree is ideal for students who plan to pursue graduate school in sociology or a related field after graduation.

BA in SOCIOLOGY REQUIREMENTS

In addition to UTA’s general core requirements, the BA in Sociology requires:
  • SOCI 1311 INTRODUCTION TO SOCIOLOGY
  • SOCI 3352 SOCIAL STATISTICS or SOCI 4306 QUALITATIVE RESEARCH 
  • SOCI 3372 SOCIOLOGICAL THEORY or SOCI 3373 SOCIAL THEORY THROUGH POPULAR CULTURE
  • SOCI 3362 SOCIAL RESEARCH
  • 24 additional hours of approved SOCI electives
  • One course in Anthropology
  • 8 hours in the same modern or classical language

Electives: Sufficient to give the total number of hours required for the degree (120 total hours with 36 advanced hours).

All new students (Freshman or transfer) must take either SOCI 1200 (PERSONAL AND PROFESSIONAL SUCCESS IN THE SOCIAL SCIENCES) or the UNIV equivalent course.

Fast track your Sociology BA into an MA!

The Fast Track Program allows outstanding undergraduate students in sociology at UT Arlington to take up to three graduate seminars in sociology that will earn credit toward both the Sociology Bachelor’s degree and the Sociology Master’s degree.
