ASSURE Research Program

The Department of Biology’s ASSURE (Achieving Success through Undergraduate Research and Engagement) program provides students with the opportunity to spend a semester involved in intensive study of research methods. The inquiry-based pedagogy of the ASSURE courses engages students in original research as part of their formal coursework. These courses significantly advance opportunities for student learning since outcomes are discovered as part of the scientific process. ASSURE students investigate questions relating to the ecology and evolution of water fleas (spring semester) and collaborate with Texas Parks and Wildlife to study natural populations of local turtle species (fall semester). Interested students should speak with their academic advisor. The course is BIOL 3302: Undergraduate Research Experience and counts as an upper level elective towards a biology degree.
